WEEK 5

Good morning Parents/Caregivers,


From Week 4, Sonya Telford will be teaching from Mondays  to Thursdays and Mandy Dencher will teach every Friday.  We are in contact with each other on a regular basis; discussing the needs of the students, behavioural expectations, curriculum content and classroom routines. Included below this entry, is a copy of the Term 1 Newsletter that your child should have taken home.


PE
Homework also began in this week.  Home Readers should be returned on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This ensures that your child reads the book to you the first night of borrowing. It is important that an adult sits beside the child and follows the text as he/she reads. This will indicate if your child is reading the correct words and adhering to the punctuation.  The second night is an opportunity for your child to re-read the book with more fluency and understanding. It is also important that you ask your child to summarize the content and for you to ask questions. If your child isn't borrowing from the Home Reader box, please ensure that they read a book of their choice for 15 minutes per day. Again, please sit beside your child as they read, have them summarize the content and ask questions to aid comprehension. PLEASE WRITE THE NAME OF THE BOOK FROM THE HOME READER BOX or  WRITE DOWN THE PAGES OF THE BOOK CHOSEN on the homework sheet.
Homework is due each Friday.  The list of words need to be written into sentences.  The Maths component comes from the concept taught the week previously. Addition/subtraction number facts should be written out nightly.


REMINDERS

• PE uniforms can be worn on Tuesdays and Thursdays
• Tuesdays:  Music lesson, Banking
• Wednesdays:  Assembly at 2:25pm
• Thursdays: PE lesson, LOTE lesson, Library lesson ( Library books returned)

RELIGION:
Complete unit on Moral Living.  Begin unit on Creation.




 ENGLISH:
Activities based on the book 'A Sick Day for Amos McGee.  There is a link to this book under 'Websites' on this blog to read online.


MATHEMATICS

• Revise reading time ( o'clock and half past on both analogue and digital clocks)
• Revise money - recognising and understanding the value of notes and coins, making equivalent amounts of money.
• Properties of 3D shapes.
• Revise 2D shapes, differentiate between odd and even numbers, read a calendar, place value, number facts

HEALTH:  Complete the Daniel Morecombe curriculum


:HASS:  Roles and Rules- Why we have rules, understand the different communities we belong to, democratic decision making, understanding the difference between participating in and contributing to a community.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns or questions. Our mornings and afternoons are busily spent preparing for your child’s learning, thus, we are unable to meet with you without a prior appointment. To make an appointment, please contact your child’s teacher through the school office, write a short note or email your class teacher. We will be able to reply to you before and after school, Monday to Friday with a suitable time to meet.

 

Munch and Crunch

All students in Year 3 will have a daily fruit or vegetable snack. Please ensure your child has an adequate snack in their lunchbox every day. Students will also require a water bottle each day.

 

Learning Overview

Religion
Students recognise how the Scriptures provide for believers a foundation for living a moral life. They will explore this through the Beatitudes and modern Catholic organisations. Students express ideas about God’s presence and action in daily life experiences; and the order and harmony in God’s creation. Additionally, they will discuss ideas about the Christian belief that Jesus in the Messiah.

 

English

English will compose of daily reading and writing workshops. Reading comprehension strategies will comprise of main ideas, supporting facts and retell. Students will participate in a writing process in response to a number of stimulus. There will also be a specific focus on spelling rules and patterns, grammar and punctuation each week.

 

Mathematics:

In class, children will be practising daily number fact recall and strategies. They will be exploring numbers to and beyond 1000 and revising time and money. We will also cover the concepts of shapes, spatial awareness, grids, maps, graphing, measurement, chance and area.

Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS):

Students are exploring Civics and Citizenship by discussing how and why rules are created. Class discussions on different communities and the difference between participating and contributing will occur throughout this unit.

 

Health:

Students will learn how to recognise, react and report when they are unsafe.

 

Science:

Students will explore the nature of the Earth and Moon’s rotation and orbital paths.

 

L.O.T.E:

Students will attend a weekly half-hour lesson, where they will learn Italian with Mario Collura.
